Violence against children and adolescents: challenges and milestones
Violence against children and adolescents in Bolivia represents one of the most challenging problems. The State Attorney General’s Office reported that, from January to October of this year, 69 cases of femicides and 27 of infanticides were registered. In 2023, 51.770 cases of crimes due to gender were registered. It should be noted that, according to a study by the International Justice Mission in Bolivia, 45% of the cases presented judicially for physical and sexual violence against girls, boys and adolescents, occur in the homes of the victims at the hands of the family and people close to them.
Thus, Save the Children Bolivia in its Country Strategic Plan 2025-2027, has recognized violence, mainly gender-based, as a key issue given the alarming reality we face since the rates of violence against girls, boys and women have become an endemic crisis that demands a forceful and urgent response from everyone.
For us, the year 2025 will not only be a turning point, due to the articulation of renewed and innovative strategies, but we will also commemorate 40 years of uninterrupted work in Bolivia. This anniversary provides us with an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the achievements made, the lessons learned, but also on the challenges that still persist.
We are committed to children’s rights and we want to contribute to the construction of a favorable future where children and adolescents can live, dream and grow with dignity free of violence.
