Circular and Green Businesses Led by Adolescents and Youth

MedWaves, an organization born under the framework of the Barcelona and Stockholm Conventions, led by the UN, is an international cooperation center that has formed a significant alliance with Save the Children Italy this year to launch the pilot program: “Strengthening Support Organizations for the Creation of Circular and Green Business Models Led by Youth.” This program will be implemented by Save the Children Bolivia, which, by sharing MedWaves’ expertise, will contribute to expanding the network of passionate and committed individuals dedicated to eco-friendly businesses.

As part of this initiative, MedWaves staff traveled from July 15 to 26 to Santa Cruz (week 1) and La Paz (week 2). During these two weeks, MedWaves conducted a train-the-trainer program focused on the development of sustainable business models. The program involved 65 business support organizations, represented by 77 local trainers, most of whom are dedicated to supporting young entrepreneurs. This pilot program will continue until May 2025 and will be implemented in four departments of Bolivia: La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and Chuquisaca.

The Strengthening Support Organizations for the Creation of Circular and Green Business Models program aims to strengthen the capacities of organizations that support sustainable businesses led by youth and to establish four regional ecosystems of organizations committed to supporting the development of green and circular businesses.

The program will also support 30 green businesses led by youth, with special attention to young women, mothers, and heads of households. The focus is on promoting the circular economy and social inclusion, with an emphasis on gender equity among the support entities for youth-led businesses in Bolivia.

The project will support public, private, and civil society organizations involved in business development to improve their capacities to incubate and accelerate green and inclusive ventures. Special attention will be given to equitable participation by youth, both women and men, while fostering a green mindset in young people under Save the Children’s educational approach.

There is still an important journey ahead, but we are confident that both Save the Children Bolivia and MedWaves, along with the allies from the ecosystems in La Paz, Santa Cruz, Sucre, and Cochabamba, are aware that we can generate a significant impact from Bolivia to the world through green businesses led by adolescents and youth.
